Including Eggs in a Reduced-Carbohydrate Diet Improves HDL Levels in Overweight Men

چکیده

R ecent research has demonstrated the value of carbohydrate-restricted diets for overweight/obese individuals with certain risk factor profiles. In addition to reducing body weight and abdominal adiposity, carbohydrate-restricted diets typically improve serum triacylglycerol (TAG) and HDL cholesterol concentrations, all of which are features associated with the metabolic syndrome. The macronutrient composition of eggs (high in protein and extremely low in carbohydrate) makes them ideal for use in carbohydraterestricted (CR) diets; but what of the additional cholesterol? Are there any drawbacks to including eggs in a CR diet plan?

Short term effects of a low-carbohydrate diet in overweight and obese subjects with low HDL-C levels

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate short-term effects of a low-carbohydrate diet in overweight and obese subjects with low HDL-C levels. METHODS Overweight (BMI between 25-30 kg/m2) or obese (BMI over 30 kg/m2) subjects with low HDL-C levels (men with HDL-C <1.03, women <1.29 mmol/l) were invited to the study. A 1400 kcal 75-gram carbohydrate (CHO) diet was given to women and an...

Eggs modulate the inflammatory response to carbohydrate restricted diets in overweight men

BACKGROUND Carbohydrate restricted diets (CRD) consistently lower glucose and insulin levels and improve atherogenic dyslipidemia [decreasing triglycerides and increasing HDL cholesterol (HDL-C)]. We have previously shown that male subjects following a CRD experienced significant increases in HDL-C only if they were consuming a higher intake of cholesterol provided by eggs compared to those ind...

Atkins diet program rapidly decreases atherogenic index of plasma in trained adapted overweight men.

BACKGROUND The Atkins diet program is a great example of the application of low carbohydrate diets for obesity, with the intention of weight loss and improvement in cardiovascular risk (CV risk). A good CV risk predictor is the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) calculated as log (TG/HDL [mmol]), which is strongly affected by serum triglycerides, which in turn is associated with the carbohydrate...

Influence of Negative Calorie Foods on Atherogenic Indices in Overweight Women

Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effects of diet of negative calorie foods (NCF) on weight, atherogenic lipids, and atherogenic ratio and compare its efficiency with diet of low calorie foods (LCF). Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, the participants were randomly selected from inactive overweight females (age 45-75 years) by parallel assignment were d...

P-148: Effect of A Low Glycemic Index Diet on Insulin Resistance and Reproductive Hormones

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disease in women affecting 5-10% of those of childbearing age. The majority of women with PCOS, regardless of weight, have a form of insulin resistance that is intrinsic to the syndrome. Obese women with PCOS have an added burden of insulin resistance related to their adiposity. Given the association of obesity and insuli...
